Standards Organizations

The best-known standards organization world-wide is almost certainly the ISO. Many of its activities (such as selling standards, etc.), are performed in the United States by ANSI and the American Society for Testing and Materials.

Although much remains to be done to standardize terminology, an attempt at this is being made by the International Information Centre for Terminology (Infoterm) and TermNet.

In the field of software, the Localization Industry Standards Association has played a role in making software easier to localize.

Other major countries have standardization bodies, such as the DIN or TÜV in Germany, etc.
